It started with a trunk…
A trunk full of black and white pictures from the 1920s and 30s, pictures from all across North America. Young Albertans, travelling by motorcycle to Los Angeles, New York, New Orleans, Vancouver, the Grand Canyon, Jasper, Banff and perhaps most interesting of all, lakes, rivers, cabins and forests from unknown sites. They are pictures of planes and trains, cars, ships, paddle wheelers, lumber mills, houses and homes. But, above all, they are pictures of people. No internet messaging, no cell phones, no rushing home to catch the news at eleven, just people enjoying life and experiencing the world. People; Men and Women, on those classic bikes with hand built sidecars, in homemade three wheeled vehicles of dubious design in an era when women were finally “persons”.
That trunk full of pictures and the people they represent became Amber’s.Amber is all of those people. She is their travels, their lives, their history, their food, their drink. She is a compendium of those young men and women, so creative and adventurous, who went on to become our parents and grandparents. The drinks we produce are based on flavours that she “discovered” for us. We doff our hat to her and to the real people that she represents and it is in their honour that we produce our beverages.....
Here are some of those pictures, and some new ones to boot...
