- NEWSÂ FLASH. We are getting rid of our garbage container. Our efforts at recycling have been so successful that we have decided that we no longer need an industrial garbage service. The only items we are trying to deal with is the composting of our food waste (which is a small amount since it is essentially only lunch leftovers and coffee grounds) so if someone wants a weekly delivery of compostables let us know.
- Most of our beer deliveries use a standard fuel/electric hybrid.
- All heat exchange water is stored for cooling so as to recycle the heat. It is a two step process; the first portion of the water goes into a hot liquor tank for use in the next brewing batch, the second portion of the water is pumped into a secondary tank next to the visitor area where the heat radiates out and is recycled as warming heat.
- We recycle as much as possible, in particular a huge amount of cardboard and shipping plastics.
- Our recyclable glass and aluminium containers are collected by the Winnifred Stewart Society. It is a wonderful service.
- Our street sign is made of recycled material. In fact a recycled steel door that would otherwise have ended up in a landfill. It is a lovingly hand painted sign. Hopefully it will last a few weeks before the locals deface it with grafitti.
- Our door sign is made of a piece of stainless steel that was recycled when we disassembled one of our tanks. When you visit, look closely at the door sign then look at the size and shape of the door to our retail room.
- Our door sign is powered with solar energy (or will be as soon as we set it up).
- We use recycled bottles. They don't look as pretty but they save energy.
- We will only bottle in glass. NO P.E.T. or aluminium containers.
- We purchase as much malt as possible in Alberta so as to reduce our CO2 footprint.
- We have enormous south facing windows. This means that we rarley require indoor lighting. Also it just feels better to have natural light.
- We have disconnected our electric overhead door lifters. They seem like an enormous waste of energy when they have a chain, right there, that performs the EXACT same function using a little elbow grease.
- We have installed low flow toilets.
- We give our Malt away to local ranchers for feed for their livestock.
We will happily sponsor green initiatives and companies that require product for fundraising. Please contact us at info@ambersbrewing.com for more information.
